“So what did I do? I started to analyse my audience and I was like, who brings in the most money? Who is the easiest to sell to? Who are my best clients? And I literally cut 60% of my audience and since then, my whole business growth has been about looking constantly.”
Eleanor Beaton is the founder of SafiMedia, an education & coaching company for women entrepreneurs. Through SafiMedia and the podcast, Power + Presence + Position, Eleanor and her team are committed to advancing global gender equity through women’s entrepreneurship. They’re on a mission to double the number of women entrepreneurs who scale past $1M in revenue by 2030. Eleanor’s work has been published or quoted in publications including The Globe & Mail, The Atlantic, CBC, Chatelaine and more.
In this episode, Eleanor shares:
- “You know, she feels hampered. And she’s driving me to basketball practice, she was grabbing the steering wheel. And she’s like, “Right, Eleanor, money is power, always make your own.”
- “She says to me, Eleanor, I just think it’s really important for women to design their careers in a way that gives you freedom. If you want to have the kind of life and be the kind of mom that you want to be and do the things that you want to do, you’re going to need to have freedom and a lot of nine to five will allow that.”
- “Listen, we understand that one of the big reasons that we’re not able to fight climate change is that right now there’s not a lot of models of how to accomplish economic growth and environmental sustainability at the same time.”
- “So we have our programing for women founders over here and it’s all about helping them niche down, get really, really focused, prune their businesses so that they can scale them up.
- “I need to change how I’m operating. I need to actually become a CEO because up to then I was like a startup founder. I was not really a CEO. I wasn’t acting like that. I was acting like a freewheeling founder, which is great. And you have to.”
- “What I had to understand is what’s on the other side of coaching, which is accepting all the parts of who I am, talking with myself every day and being like, Hey guys, this is what we’re doing. We’re doing something we haven’t done before. It’s kind of scary, you know, and, and I want you guys all with me”
- Why should entrepreneurs focus on growing from a sufficiency mindset over a scarcity mindset? because when you grow based on scarcity, it’s never enough.
